About HNPT

Founder of Head and Neck Physical Therapy, Jenna Goar, received a bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT in 2014. She received her doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Iowa in 2017. She has a background in orthopedic physical therapy, but since 2019, has solely treated head and neck conditions. These include: dizziness and inner ear dysfunction, TMJ (jaw dysfunction), headaches/migraines, neck pain, concussions, and other forms of facial pain. She received both her dry needling and vestibular certifications in 2019. As of 2025, she is also a Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT).

In addition to direct patient care, Jenna has served as a mentor to new graduates and physical therapy students who also share her passion for head and neck physical therapy. She has taught groups of dentists, physicians, and other practitioners about various conditions of the head and neck and how physical therapy can help.

Because of her passion and experience in treating head and neck conditions, Jenna started Head and Neck Physical Therapy in 2022. Her goal is to serve anyone suffering from dizziness or head/neck pain quickly and efficiently to restore function in their daily lives.

Hello!

Hello! My name is Jenna Goar and I served in a head and neck specialty clinic in the Iowa City area from 2019-2022. My family and I moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2022, where I quickly discovered the lack of these services being offered in this area. I knew that I needed to act on this matter and share my passion and skillset to help those in this area suffering from dizziness, TMJ (jaw dysfunction), neck pain, headaches, and concussions. This led to the creation of Head and Neck Physical Therapy. My mission is to provide the highest quality, one-on-one, head and neck physical therapy in the Columbus area, and to educate patients on the life-changing benefits this specialized form of physical therapy can have on their lives.

Testimonials

Jenna’s approach is specific to each patient and she is very knowledgeable about head and neck issues. I had worked with four previous physical therapist’s before I found Jenna and she was able to get results that previous PT’s could not. I believe this is due to her unique knowledge about head and neck therapy and her passion for the work she does. She considers referrals to other providers when necessary to supplement her treatment, taking a multidisciplinary approach.  Her combination of passion, skill, and knowledge make her an exceptional provider and leader in the PT community.

I have suffered from vertigo off and on for quite some time.  Recently it came back suddenly and hit me hard.  Luckily I was able to get an appointment that morning with a new to me Physical Therapist, Jenna Goar.  I was unable to walk and needed a wheelchair to get into her office.  Jenna was waiting for me to arrive.   She quickly diagnosed my vertigo and performed therapy to relieve my symptoms.  Within an hour I was able to walk out the door.  Two days later at a follow-up appointment Jenna determined that there was no sign of vertigo.

I will be forever grateful for Jenna’s quick, thorough action in fixing my condition.  I cannot say enough about her kind, compassionate attitude and superior work ethic. It was comforting to be treated by a professional that truly cared about me and making me better.

Jenna is the Best!!!

~ Glenn

Jenna is very professional and extremely knowledgeable.  I first came to Jenna for dry needling.  I had pain in my upper back and neck that affected my movements.  She listened and was able to diagnose and find the areas that were the source of the pain. With dry needling, she totally alleviated the pain and in turn restored my flexibility.  I must say that Chiropractic treatments did not work for me.  I’m so glad I heard about dry needling.  Thank you so much Jenna.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is the act of inserting a thin, monofilament needle into the skin down to the level of the muscle, to reduce pain and help muscles perform properly. Dry needling elicits a twitch response of the targeted muscle. When the muscle twitches, it efficiently helps break up the muscle knot and allows the muscle fibers to realign. This process not only directly affects the structure of the muscle, but also initiates a cascade of pain-reducing mechanisms in the body, while also releasing “feel good” chemicals. Dry needling has similar effects to massaging the affected area, but in a much quicker way. Jenna is certified in trigger point dry needling.

Why should I See a Vestibular Therapist vs. a General Orthopedic Physical Therapist for Dizziness?

Therapists who have a vestibular certification have received specialized training and coursework to be able to accurately and efficiently diagnose and treat dizziness. There are several causes of dizziness, many of which can be alarming. Vestibular physical therapists are trained to screen for red flags and know when it is safe to continue treatment, or if there is a need to refer to a doctor to rule out sinister pathologies. At Head and Neck Physical Therapy, we also use a specialized diagnostic tool, known as infrared video frenzel lenses, which are crucial for correctly diagnosing and treating vertigo. Most physical therapy clinics do not have them. Many patients feel significantly better after one visit when they’ve been diagnosed and treated by a certified vestibular therapist.

What is TMJ/TMD? Why Might I be Experiencing Ear Pain Along with it & How Can it Help?

TMJ actually refers to the temporomandibular joint, our jaw joint. TMD, or temporomandibular disorder, is when this joint or the structures associated with this joint become impaired. This can include the joint itself, the disc in the joint space, the muscles that attach to and surround the joint, or the nerves that cause facial pain. The jaw joint sits directly in front of the ear, so many people who have TMD suffer from ear pain that is not treatable by other healthcare providers. These patients feel like they have an ear infection, when actually the pain is coming from either the jaw or the neck. At Head and Neck Physical Therapy, Jenna has taken several courses and is a Certified Cervical and Temporomandibular Therapist (CCTT), so she can treat TMD effectively and efficiently.

Why Should I Consider Cash Pay Physical Therapy?

Insurance companies have made it extremely difficult for therapists to provide the best level of care to patients, and be able to do this one on one. The majority of PT practices that accept insurance double or triple book patients, so you are not getting the individualized or hands-on care you need to get better. In addition, you can actually save money using cash PT by avoiding high deductibles and high co-pays. For example, if you have a high deductible plan, you are responsible for the full amount of charges until your deductible is met, and then you have to pay a co-insurance, or a percentage of the charges. For an initial evaluation, this can be anywhere from $250-450, and most follow-ups will be an estimate of $150-250! At Head and Neck Physical Therapy, you can expect to get better in fewer sessions with the individualized, hands-on care provided.

Do You Take Insurance?

At this time, we are considered an out-of-network provider with insurance providers. The exception to this is Medicare Part B and Medigold, whom we are in-network and contracted with. However, all patients can receive a superbill that can be submitted to the insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement. Depending on what your out-of-network benefits are, your insurance may be able to reimburse you for your appointments. Head and Neck Physical Therapy cannot guarantee the amount of reimbursement by your insurance company, if any.

Do I Need a Doctor’s Referral?

In most cases, no, you do not need a doctor’s referral to come to physical therapy. This is referred to as direct access, which is a law that allows PTs to evaluate patients without a referral. However, your therapist is required to contact a patient’s physician within 5 days to let them know you are under the care of a PT, unless you request otherwise. Therapists are also required to refer a patient to a doctor if no progress is being made after 30 days.

Medicare patients do need to have a referral prior to coming to physical therapy. Some other insurances do require a script if you want to be reimbursed for out-of-network services.

How Much Does Each Session Cost?

The initial evaluation costs $175, which includes a thorough evaluation and treatment. Each follow-up appointment is $125. Mobile visits (in the comfort of your own home) available upon request, for an additional charge. Dry needling is an extra $25 per session, no matter how many needles are used.

What Can I Expect During My First Appointment & Follow-up Appointments?

All appointments will be one on one with Jenna and will last 35-40 minutes, depending on your condition and needs. During your first visit, Jenna will conduct a thorough evaluation to figure out what impairments you have and will initiate treatment that first day. You will be sent home with further instruction on what to do and what not to do to help you start feeling better immediately. Please wear clothes you can be comfortable in, no need for specialized attire. During follow-up sessions, Jenna will do a quick screen to determine what treatment still needs to be provided, if any.
